Risks In The World Of Art: AXA ART Panel For Paris Journalists

Senior AXA ART executives from Cologne and Paris participated in a breakfast panel discussion on contemporary risks in the art world on May 25th at AXA's 18th century Hotel de La Vaupaliere in central Paris on behalf of the Anglo-American Press Association.

Some 21 international journalists based in Paris attended to hear and interact with Kai Kuklinski, Global CEO of AXA ART, Philippe Bouchet, AXA ART historian and specialist in 20th century art, and Colonel Ludovic Ehrhart of the Central Office for the Fight Against Cultural Goods Trafficking (OCBC) of France's Police Judiciaire. The panel was moderated by Shellie Karabell, Forbes.com contributor and AAPA Executive Committee member.

Mr. Kuklinski explained the role of AXA ART within the AXA Group, describing the kinds of risks AXA ART can insure (transportation and water being the biggest threats), and added that the art world is adapting more and more to digital technology in its business model.

Mr. Bouchet discussed the kinds of risks homeowners take without realizing it in exhibiting and caring for their personal art collections at home. He also touched on the risks associated with apartment-living, where your neighbor's water leak may become your problem.

Colonel Earhart presented an overview of the OCBC in Paris, which works within the French Ministry of the Interior. Among other things, the OCBC works with international organizations – such as the FBI in the US – to identify and retrieve stolen goods on a large scale, such as those taken illegally from politically unstable locations such as Syria, Iraq and Libya. The Colonel also on a regular basis.

The morning event ended with a tour of the Hotel de La Vaupaliere, a listed monument recently restored by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill with interior architecture designed by Francois-Joseph Graf.
