“The Sky Over Nine Columns” AXA ART presents Heinz Mack at TEFAF Maastricht

TEFAF Maastricht is one of the few art fairs that provide exhibition space not only for valuable antiques, jewelry and works of the Old Masters, but also for contemporary art.
For the past 14 years, AXA ART has been the major sponsor of Europe’s leading art fair.
This year large format photos and a miniature model of the installation will frame the AXA ART presentation at TEFAF Maastricht from March 10th to 19th, 2017 (Lounge 800). A pillar by Heinz Mack, nearly 20 feet high and covered with white-gold mosaic tiles, will be installed in front of the main entrance of the MECC exhibition center.

The original work is an overwhelming piece of art: nine pillars, each one some 26 feet high, covered with 850,000 gold mosaic tiles and weighing 53 tons – “The Sky over Nine Columns” by Heinz Mack*. Previously, “The Sky Over Nine Columns” has been on view in public sites in Venice, Istanbul, Valencia and St. Moritz. Now the work will continue to travel.

A superb supporting program will accompany the Heinz Mack presentation in the AXA ART Lounge. In conversation with Dr. Lisa Zeitz, editor in chief for WELTKUNST, Michael Beck (Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art) will provide insights into this fascinating work, “The Sky over Nine Columns”.
(Friday, March 10th, 2017, 3 pm - 3:30 pm). The artist Heinz Mack will be in attendance. For over 60 years he has worked as a painter and sculptor. In 1957, with Otto Piene, he co-founded the artists’ group ZERO.

Heinz Mack’s work is the central feature of this year’s AXA ART program and for art enthusiasts, there are more highlights coming up.
