AXA Art offers free access to the MeiMoses® index to all policy holders

During this uncertain economic time, it is possible to be swayed by questionable ‘expert’ opinions. Without substantiation, some recent accounts point to an art market having dropped over 40% across the board since the fall of 2008. At AXA Art we endeavor to remain level headed and guided by facts, which is why a few years ago we subscribed to the MeiMoses® index and made it available to our clients without charge to benefit from a more grounded, fact based source.

The MeiMoses® index is a data-driven view of five segments of the market as well as an all market index. By tracking repeat sales of the same art works, the index is able to establish a trend line. This trend line can help in establishing an approximate current market value for your art works. The website has gone further this year to address growing market concerns, for the first time there is now a quarterly report generated to present more immediate trends in the context of the wider economy.

The past few years have seen some significant fluctuations in the art market and now more than ever a consistent impartial source is needed to steady the boat. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the MeiMoses® index is available to all AXA Art’s clients, complimentary as an added benefit. Whether you had an appraisal last year, at the height of the market, or you haven’t had one in 20 years, we urge you to consider using the MeiMoses® index to better understand what your collection may be worth. Once you have examined the MeiMoses® index, should you find there is a gap in the present value of your collection and your insurance coverage, we advise you to call your broker to discuss the next step.
